Knowle Congregational

Church 4

Yet, whilst the adult congregation fell, the Sunday School which used the Church building between 10.00 and 11.00, grew (60 odd children with four teachers, including Jack). Many parents came with their children. The Congregational Church Service was in the evening between 6.00 and 7.00, but the number attending was smaller.

The booklet with the Constitution and Regulations was produced and printed during the time of Rev. Stead.

At a special Church meeting on 7th. November 1946, it was agreed to purchase the Three Manual, five pedal and 32 stops Reed Organ by John Holt.  The organ was originally installed at Lansdowne House, a large house at the foot of Stripes Hill.

The cost was £375 plus £25 dismantle and re-erection.

When Mr. Stead departed, the congregation resolved to purchase a manse and find a new minister. A house was accordingly acquired in 1949 (61 Lodge Road), but it was not until 1951 that a minister was appointed.

Between  1946-1951, Mr. G.H. Medhurst, of Olton, presided over the chapel services and meetings.
