Since 1982

We are fortunate in having a lovely little family in the Manse at 118 Buryfield Road, and Robert and Alison provide much amusement with their uninhibited antics during the Services. Now there is Young Matthew coming along and Soon he will be making his own little place in the hearts of the congregation We are more than fortunate in having such an able helpmate in Dr. Ruth Fear, who in her quiet unassuming way is a tower of strength.

Since 1982 we have had the usual fluctuation in members - losing some - but always gaining new members and adherents.  The Roll at present stands at 124 and hopefully it will continue to rise. We celebrate communion in February, May and November at Hobs Moat during an evening service and worship together four times a year.  Our own Communion Service is celebrated as before in January, April, July and October when there is an increasing number taking part. We have been forced to install a new heating system which has had to contend with the coldest winter for 40 Years, so perhaps it may yet prove adequate for our lofty building.

The organ, once our pride and joy, has over the years become increasingly temperamental and we have to give full marks to Bert Hall who heroically manages to control the grumbles and grunts which erupt from its aging internals. Fortunately, as a memorial for the 40 years of St. Ninian’s existence the congregation has elected to buy a new organ and most wonderfully contributed the major portion of the cost on the same day that the decision was taken to go ahead.

Christmas presents are distributed to the old folk who live around the church, and in May the Guild give a supper party and entertainment to about 60 old people, with the men folk helping with transport.

On Thursday there is a prayer meeting in the upper room and a Bible Study is held at the Manse on the second Sunday in the month.

Contrary to reports of falling numbers, St. Ninian’s has a steady influx of new members and adherents and a wonderful spirit of dedication and service is alive in the church. This augurs well for the future and we trust that with God’s help we shall be able to carry on for another 40 years — ever growing in outreach and Concern Particularly for the young entrusted to our care, as they are the church of the future.
