Formation of the URC
1980
It was with profound regret that we said farewell to our beloved Minister John Forsyth on his retirement in January 1980. A farewell party was held which was attended by a great many people who had worshipped in St. Ninian’s in the past. With Mr. Forsyth’s retirement, the Guild lost the gifted leadership of Rosina who had been President for 18 years and was an inspiration to us all. We are happy, however, that Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth continue to worship with us in St. Ninian’s.
The 'In-between' Years
From 1980 - 1982 the church was without a minister in charge. This situation the congregation accepted as a challenge, not only to carry on the running of the church, but by becoming more spiritually involved. The Interim Moderator at this time was the Reverend Don Howell, followed by the Reverend Ernest Marshall and latterly the Reverend David Pitkeathly.
In 1981, the Reverend John Joseph, a Welsh Presbyterian was considered as a possible candidate for the vacancy of the joint pastorate of St. Ninian’s and Hobs Moat. After deliberation however, he declined the call. Later, in October 1981, the Reverend Kenneth Brian Charles Fear was suggested as prospective Minister and accepted the call in June 1982. The Induction took place on 18th September 1982 when there was a congregation of over 200 present.
He was welcomed on behalf of the Elders of both churches by the Senior Elders, Mrs. M. Morley and Mr. Arthur Warner. The address was given by the Reverend Keith Forecast. Refreshments provided by the women of both congregations were served after the Service.
